JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Lead Teacher of Mathematics
Responsible to: Head of Education
Accountable to: Principal
Core Purpose of the Lead Teacher of Mathematics
In consultation with the Principal and Head of Education undertake identified areas of responsibility as necessary to ensure effective delivery of the school’s curriculum and regulatory mandates.
Seek to enhance educational standards by the effective development and implementation of an aspirational and engaging curriculum across Key stage 3, 4 and 5 that strengthens the abilities and ambitions of our students.
To ensure that parents, students and staff are informed of progress towards individual and whole school targets.
To lead the department towards improving outcomes by delegating relevant tasks, providing consistent support and challenge and professional accountability.
To ensure the delivery of good and outstanding teaching and learning across the curriculum areas.
To continue to develop standards of attainment, achievement and progress in Mathematics, at all key stages.
To develop, monitor, evaluate and review engaging, relevant and innovative schemes of work in each year group, which will enable students of all abilities to make excellent progress and achieve the best possible outcomes.
To develop, with the Mathematics Instructor a responsive and innovative curriculum in Mathematics.
Be pro-active in promoting innovative curriculum proposals.
To be knowledgeable of education practice at local and national levels.
To ensure that a rich and creative curriculum permeates within and beyond the classroom.

Learning and Teaching
To develop and enhance the teaching practice of colleagues implementing improvements where required.
To establish common standards of practice within the area and develop the effectiveness of teaching and learning styles.

To conduct ‘learning walks’ and other learning evaluation strategies in accordance with school policy.
To contribute to PSHE, citizenship and CEIAG lessons and sessions for students.
Assessment
To establish a robust target-setting process across all key stages in the school
To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning all key stages
To evaluate the performance data provided and take appropriate action on issues arising – setting realistic deadlines where necessary and reviewing progress on the action taken.
To produce reports on assessment performance, including the use of data
To provide all relevant bodies with robust information relating to the area’s performance and development
General Responsibilities
To attend appropriate training conferences and foster your own professional development so that the school promotes external expectations of best practice
To act as a role model, leading by example
Knowledge and willingness to be trained in positive approaches to working with challenging behaviours associated with learning barriers (e.g. MAPA).
To undertake such other duties that are reasonably compatible with the Lead Teacher of Mathematics.
To report to the Principal in the event of awareness of bad practice, maladministration or health and safety issues.
To undertake such other duties and responsibilities reasonably consistent with the role as may be required from time to time as determined by the Head of Education and Principal.

QTS and eligibility to work in the UK
Education to Degree Level or Equivalent in Mathematics or a closely related subject
Clean and current car driving license
Good ICT Proficiency
