The Opportunity
Here at EDF Renewables UK & Ireland we are looking for an experienced Project Planning Specialist to work with our wonderful Irish team and support a cross disciplinary team working in all stages of development and preliminary design of renewable energy projects.
As our Project Planning Specialist you will be required to provide the requisite leadership to respond to day-to-day challenges and to develop well considered planning strategies for large scale complex renewable energy projects (i.e. wind/solar/battery storage).
This role has a challenging workload across of number of projects involving different renewable technologies. As our Project Planning Specialist you will maintain knowledge of policy changes in an exciting and maturing industry sector. It is critical that the role builds close relationships with industry bodies to keep on top current and upcoming changes.
Ideally you will have a town planning or environmental background experience in a local authority, consultancy or related development industry.
This will initially be an 18 month contract role.

What you’ll be doing
You will manage and oversee the planning application process to ensure the highest quality planning applications and associated documentation including, planning statements, Environmental Impact Assessment Reports and Natura Impact Statements.
You will also:
- Provide ad-hoc advice and expertise to members of the development and senior management team on the evolution of planning and policy matters
- Undertake due diligence of relevant the planning aspects for any project acquisition opportunities
- Staying up to-date with the key developments across relevant EU, national, regional, and local planning & environmental policies and relevant planning case law updates, the disseminating key information/implications to the wider team
- Support the business on planning policy submissions as they arise across relating to the range of business activities
- Represent EDF Renewables while engaging with external stakeholders and maintaining industry networks (e.g., planning authorities, statutory consultees, local community, landowners, industry associations and professional bodies) in a professional and competent manner
- Provide the requisite oversight and advice in relation to project planning permit compliance in preparation for and during the delivery stages
What do you need to be great at this role?
As project manager this role will draw on skills across EDF RUK&I, including technology teams, communications team and other internal specialists.
Externally the role is expected to build relationships with stakeholders including third party developers, planning consultants, landowners, influential national and local stakeholders and the local community.
- Extensive experience of similar roles in the renewable energy, electricity generation, land or planning sectors
- Thorough understanding of what makes a viable renewable project successful and increasing the competitiveness of our projects
- Strong team-player with good interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
- Maintains knowledge of changing policy affecting our projects
- A commitment to ensuring the highest standards of project development, consultation and community relations at all times
Desirable Qualifications
- Chartered Status and membership in Planning from a relevant professional organisation – (MIEEM, MIEMA, MRUP, MIPI, CIWEM, Engineers Ireland)
- Hold a relevant level 8 qualification such as Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology or Town/Land-Use Planning with strong knowledge of Irish planning legislation, policy and practice as it relates to the energy sector
- Have a proven track record in securing planning consent for infrastructure projects in Ireland along with excellent and written communication skills, with the ability to integrate into the existing team, and work alongside colleagues of other disciplines
