About the Service/Department

Harwood Road provides accommodation in Fulham for residents with enduring mental health needs. The project provides 24 hour care and support service to 15 residents, 13 of them living in self-contained flats and other 2 in their own rooms and sharing kitchen and toileting facilities within one Registered Home.

Harwood Road’s ethos of care is one in which the staff team works alongside residents to support them with life in the community in an environment that promotes residents’ rights and emphasises on giving them the opportunity to make choices on issues affecting their lives. This is all implemented within the framework as set by Care Standards Act 2000, Care Homes Regulations 2001 and National Minimum Standard for Care Homes for Younger Adults and Adults Placement 2001 and associated legislations.

Staff members are expected to have the ability to develop effective working relationships and to support and enable residents to participate in decisions that affect their lives through user led planning and key working. They must have a commitment to improving residents’ quality of life.

Our staff team is highly motivated and members are expected to use their initiative to deal with day-to-day issues involving residents and striving at all times for high standards of care. Our recent inspection report reported that we met all the standards assessed and other external agencies and residents’ relatives have praised the service.

About the role
To provide high quality care and support to service users bringing the care/support plans to life and carrying out the actions agreed

Some other main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Organisation. To have knowledge of and follow relevant legislation, policies and procedures including those reflected in the CQC Standards
  • To carry out other duties as may be reasonably required by the team leader
  • To take part in regular supervisions and take up opportunities to learn within the service, Organisation and externally
  • You will be encouraged to undertake an approved Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) training programme within your first 12 months of employment

About you

  • Basic knowledge of mental health issues
  • Basic awareness of health and safety issues
  • Willingness to cook and clean with the service users and to assist with personal care
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours within a rota system including weekends, evenings and sleep-ins
  • Willingness to maximise independence by motivating and supporting service users towards their goals
  • Willingness to travel and work across the services when required
  • Promotes a service user-oriented organisation by ensuring that all activity is aligned to identify service user needs
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Experience using MS office as well as producing letters etc.
