Academic Skills Consultant (Writing) – Salford

The Library, Careers and Enterprise at the University of Salford is seeking to recruit an Academic Skills Consultant (Writing) to develop, co-ordinate and deliver an equitable and future-facing writing support service that makes a real difference for our students. 

Do you have excellent writing skills with experience of teaching writing and other academic skills? Are you also great at communicating and collaborating across team boundaries to realise strategic priorities? And are you a highly motivated, innovative, and critically reflective practitioner, looking for an opportunity to implement your own ideas and make a measurable impact? Key responsibilities

In this role, you will develop students’ skills by delivering active, inclusive and impactful writing support through workshops, 1:1 tutorials, and digital content. You’ll also contribute to curriculum development and evolve the model for writing support considering University priorities, changing student behaviours and technological advances.

You will need to:                            

  • Extend and enhance the Library’s writing skills provision as part of a holistic skills support offer that prepares students for success in their academic and professional lives.
  • Enable students to develop the self-efficacy, confidence, academic resilience, autonomy, and academic skills (e.g. different types of writing, academic practice, critical thinking, Artificial Intelligence literacy) that they need to succeed.
  • Contribute to the development, organisation, promotion, and evaluation of effective academic skills provision, which delivers an outstanding student experience and makes a positive impact on students’ timely progression and success. 
  • Organise and deliver workshops, large-group lectures, bespoke sessions and 1:1 support for students at all levels in both face-to-face and virtual formats, ensuring these are inclusive, active, collaborative, digitally fluent and with real-world relevance.

This role is based in the Library, Careers & Enterprise – a place to learn and share ideas, a virtual hub for research and discovery, a team of friendly faces delivering excellent customer service, and a community of experts playing a vital role in teaching, learning, research, employability, and enterprise at Salford.
