Commercial Lead – Clacton-on-sea, UK
The Opportunity
This position is an exciting opportunity to join EDF Heat Pumps (formerly CB Heating), which is a well-established SME that has recently been acquired by EDF, providing investment and growth opportunities on a wider scale. The role is based in Clacton-On-Sea but with the opportunity for hybrid work.
We’re looking for a Commercial Lead to play a key role in driving EDF’s strategic growth and profitability. This role will collaborate with a broad range of internal teams and wider Group stakeholders to enhance and sustain strong commercial performance.
You’ll have the autonomy to make informed decisions within your area of responsibility, using your judgment to optimise commercial performance. Your focus will be on supporting the business in achieving its growth, cost, and delivery objectives.
What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for:
- Assessing and advising on key commercial considerations such as pricing strategy and tender submissions
- Monitoring the business cost stack and ensuring opportunities to improve are actioned and updated accordingly, within the pricing approach
- Managing high level procurement activities and commercial effectiveness/efficiencies monitoring ROI/savings made
- Setting out strategic capability, identifying new market opportunities and quantifying how this impacts performance
- Business casing investment or change initiatives to ensure they generate a positive commercial outcome for the business
- Reviewing and understanding business performance trends to be able to articulate how they impact commercial performance, making recommendations to the business where appropriate to help improve performance and operational efficiency
- Analysing customer pipeline data and conversion across the entire customer journey to help provide actionable insights to help drive sales growth in a profitable manner
- Collaborating with other members of the senior leadership team and central EDF colleagues to align commercial strategies with business objectives
- Supporting the Transformation & Reporting team on reporting & data requirement scoping to improve overall quality of management information and business performance reporting
Who you are
We’re looking for someone with experience in a commercially focused role with a proven commercial or financial background, demonstrating a strong focus on value, strategic thinking, and the delivery of commercial targets.
You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to form effective working relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders, even when faced with competing priorities and objectives. You’ll work in a manner that builds credibility and trust, integrating seamlessly as a key part of each business area’s team.
Strong planning and organisational skills are required, along with the ability to translate business strategies into clear objectives, plans, and priorities. You will be highly adaptable, willing to try new approaches to find opportunities and improve current practices across business units, with a strong focus on boosting commercial performance.
Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and interrogation is essential, while experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI or Tableau is beneficial.

Pay, benefits and culture
