HR Advisor –
Job Description

Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an HR Advisor – South to join our HR Operations team at Costain. This is an exciting time to join the business as we continue to transform and realise our growth ambition. The HR Advisor is responsible for working with managers within their area of responsibility and is the first point of contact for all general HR matters relating to Company policy and procedure which cannot be resolved by the HR Shared Services team. The vast majority of the workload is related to ER matters.

We try where possible to work dynamically, however this role is required to travel to sites and offices in the southern region two-three days per week with occasional travel to other parts of the UK. Sites vary from Plymouth and South Wales in the far south-west, Peterborough and Norfolk in the east and Brighton in the south, as well as Inner and Outer London.

Responsibilities

Principle role requirements

  • Manage and guide all employee relations cases in a timely and appropriate way, including advice and guidance on all policy and case matters
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations
  • Coaching and developing line managers to drive confidence and capability, including face to face delivery of formal training modules
  • Support all operational HR aspects of the employment life cycle across projects
  • Build great relationships with key stakeholders
  • Supplementary role requirements
  • Project work which helps to drive continuous improvement activities and consistency
  • Ensures Central HR policies, processes and initiatives are communicated and deployed effectively.
  • Where workload allows, to be involved in cyclical activity such as talent and succession planning, learning and development activities, reward aspects etc.

Essential skills and experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working as an HR/ER advisor with a high ER case load
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting with employee relations activities such as capability, absence management, disciplinary, grievances, TUPE and restructuring
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management
  • Up-to-date knowledge and proven application of employment legislation
  • High level of written/oral communications skills
  • High level of planning and organisation, with the ability to work proactively and exercise initiative to manage workload and meet deadlines
  • Associate CIPD/level 5 or working towards level 7

Qualifications

Experience/qualifications desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a multi-site environment
