Are you ready to be a key player in one of the most exciting and significant infrastructure projects in the UK? We're on the lookout for a dynamic and experienced lawyer to join our team at Sizewell C (SZC) as a Legal Counsel for Equipment.

About the Role:

You'll be at the heart of SZC's mission to deliver legal excellence in our Equipment Programme, including the Nuclear Island and Conventional Island/Balance of Plant Programme, and the Mechanicals, Electricals, and HVAC (MEH) Programme. Your role is crucial for ensuring the timely, efficient, and compliant delivery of this landmark project. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors, you'll provide high-quality legal support across a variety of complex engineering, design, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning projects.

This is your chance to work on a project that will power over six million homes with low-carbon electricity, saving around nine million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Join us and contribute to a cleaner, greener future!

Why SZC?

Sizewell C represents a transformative leap towards sustainable energy production in the UK. Once built, this nuclear power station located in Suffolk will generate enough low carbon electricity to supply over six million homes annually. By reducing carbon emissions by approximately nine million tonnes per year compared to traditional gas-fired plants, Sizewell C stands as a beacon of environmental responsibility and technological advancement.

At Sizewell C, we are more than just a project – we're a vision for a sustainable future. With a development consent order granted in July 2022, we are embarking on a 9-to-12-year build programme that includes not just the power station but also significant associated developments such as roads, railways, and a 2,400-bed accommodation campus. This is your opportunity to be part of a project that will have a lasting impact on the UK's energy landscape.

What You'll Do:

Provide Expert Legal Advice: Deliver pragmatic, solutions-focused legal guidance on equipment and MEH supply chain contracts, contract management, regulatory matters, governance, and compliance requirements.

Manage Complex Matters: Tackle high-value, high-risk issues, developing strategic solutions and contemplating business risks.

Contract Management: Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts, identifying solutions and resolving issues efficiently.

Drive Improvements: Enhance systems, policies, and procedures through insight and best practices.

Dispute Resolution: Proactively manage potential disputes or claims, providing strategic advice and leading formal dispute resolutions when necessary.

External Law Firms: Manage appointments and instructions of external law firms, ensuring value and efficiency.

Legislative Awareness: Keep abreast of legislative changes, ensuring compliance and supporting stakeholders with implementation.

Stakeholder Relations: Serve as a reference point for stakeholders, maintaining communication on key matters and challenges.

Leadership: Deputise for senior members of the SZC Legal Team, building and maintaining valuable relationships with external law firms.

Who You Are

To succeed in this role, you will need:

Admission as a solicitor in England & Wales or an equivalent common law jurisdiction.

Extensive post-qualification experience, ideally with a strong background in construction supply chain contracts (NEC and FIDIC).

Your legal expertise is matched by your ability to navigate high-value, high-risk matters with strategic insight.

You thrive in dynamic environments, capable of driving improvements and managing intricate legal challenges.

Your excellent communication skills and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships set you apart.
