How you’ll make a difference
As Library Supervisor, you will work encourage library staff to interact with the local community, helping give people access to library services.
What you will be doing
- You will be responsible for the day to day running of the library, including the safety and security of buildings and the use of facilities and equipment in line with Property Services.
- Daily, you will lead a team of Library Assistants in the delivery of services and support teams in other service points as required, including casual staff and volunteers who support work with children, IT and outreach services.
- Regularly, you will carry out various administrative tasks to support the operation of the library, including monitoring of expenditure, placing orders and liaising with contractors.
- It will be key for you to ensure staff work to the policies of the library service and the council, taking action where necessary. This will involve carrying out 1-2-1 meetings with staff, ensuring monies received at the library are managed in line with financial procedures and that health and safety policies are adhered to.
- You will be undertaking the physical aspects of the job including shelving and counter work, lifting, and carrying of books and other materials.
What we need from you
- It is essential for you to have experience working in a library environment, delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service.
- You will be able to demonstrate an ability to manage staff, including supervision, training, recruitment and development of a team.
- We require you to be self-motivated, be able to use your initiative, and have good organisational and time management skills.
- You must have strong problem-solving skills and be able to take the necessary action within required policies.
What you need to know
- This is a part-time role, working 35.75 hours per week. Your salary is pro-rata to hours worked.
- Your rolling two week rota will be:

Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8.30am – 5pm.

Week 2 – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8.30am – 5pm and Saturday 8.30am – 12.30pm.
