Within the IoPPN, the Department of Psychology is one of the largest of its kind, conducting internationally recognised research and teaching in areas ranging from mental health and neurodevelopment to emotion, personality and physical health.
About the role:
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant to join the Department of Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London. The postholder will work within a team focusing on child and adolescent mental health, with particular expertise in the integration of physical and mental health care and in developing, implementing and evaluating modular and low-intensity psychological interventions for children and young people and their families.
The team is currently running several research studies, including research in: the integration of physical and mental healthcare for children with epilepsy; low-intensity treatments for children with mental health conditions in the context of chronic physical illnesses; developing treatments for Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder; and developing mental health treatments for children who are adopted and fostered. The successful candidate will contribute to this portfolio of work by supporting the life course of all projects within the team. This will include, amongst other tasks, preparation of grant applications, data collection and management, literature reviews, preparation of ethics applications, preparation for meetings such as steering groups, liaising with collaborators and clinical partners, and assisting with dissemination through presentations and publications.
The postholder will be supervised within the team and based in the Department of Psychology, working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment. The role is well suited to individuals considering a career in clinical psychology, child and adolescent mental health, or applied health research, and offers excellent experience in large-scale research projects with potential for direct clinical and service relevance.
This position will suit an organised and proactive individual with strong interpersonal skills, an interest in child and adolescent mental health, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract until 31st July 2026 with high likelihood of extension to July 2027.
