Job Description

A vacancy has arisen for a Medical Device Engineer. As the successful candidate you will be required to provide Design and Development Engineering support for new and current projects.

You will support our drug delivery products program team as it supports our customers through clinical trials, investigating new drugs and therapies for debilitating neurodegenerative and neurooncological conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Undertakes the creation of design inputs, outputs, Design verification and validation,

  • Realises new products or equipment utilizing CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings,

  • Creates technical, authoritative reports, test protocols and test reports  

  • Specifies precise functional requirements;

  • Authors and participates in the creation of risk documentation for user and design assessments

  • Evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety

  • Participates in cross-functional teams to assess technical and clinical needs, and device feasibility

  • Designs, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, to create product specifications

  • Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, supply chain, industrial process designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability

  • Creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials

Key requirements

  • High level degree in a suitable STEM subject, such as mechanical engineer, biomechanics/ bio-medical engineering, manufacturing engineering or other appropriate experience

  • Working knowledge of ISO13485, ISO 14971

  • 3 years + experience in a medical device design & development engineering role

  • Knowledge of DFM

  • Technical report writing

Desirable requirements

  • Working knowledge of ISO 10993, ISO 11737,

  • CAD and drafting experience (Siemens NX Unigraphics preferable though training will be provided)

  • Experience of test design and statistical techniques for design verification/ validation

  • Experience in nonconforming product management, CAPA and design change activities

  • Knowledge of design for manufacture: additive, subtractive, assembly manufacturing techniques

  • Knowledge of sterilisation validations

Person specification

  • Excellent written skills (e.g. protocol, report writing)

  • Excellent communication skills
